A message from our board chair
In the late 1800s, when the Elizabeth Peabody House (EPH) was founded, the settlement house movement challenged conventional wisdom. Building community across economic and ethnic lines — by sharing knowledge, leveraging cultural resources, and forming supportive relationships — was a radical response to the poverty, public health crises, and poor working conditions facing immigrants in industrial America. EPH led the way, creating a vibrant community through nutrition programs, early education, youth enrichment, and the arts.
